The opening of the exhibition of photographs by Cas Oorthuys at the Plein Theater in Amsterdam will be on 17 April at 17:00. It concerns work Cas Oorthuys made during the Second World War. Head of technology at the Plein Theatre, his son Frank Oorthuys, is exhibiting the photos in the foyer of our theatre as part of 80 years of...<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photographer\/resistance fighter Cas Oorthuys was affiliated with 'The Hidden Camera<\/em>'. This was a well-organised group of photographers who - mostly from illegality - documented the war. In May this year, this collection will become part of the Unesco World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank Oorthuys: \"I notice that part of that history is fairly unknown to young people. It's good to keep bringing attention to how bad that war was for everyone involved and especially for our fellow Jews. It shows how dangerous it is and that it could happen again. Also a wake-up call, then: dictators can prevail just like Trump and Putin are trying to do now.\"<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, a biography on Oorthuys was published by Lecturis publishing house \"Cas Oorthuys 1908-1975\". The writer Sybrand Hekking already published a monograph on Oorthuys in 1981. His enduring fascination for the multifaceted network Oorthuys built up during his life led to this biography after thorough archival research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
