Recently, you can also become a supporter of Culture Press. For 60 euros per year you support our work, with no further obligations. That's a great way to further advance a unique news medium!
1: Culture Press is a readers' cooperative.
Unlike, say, your favourite newspaper, with us you are not the product, with which we lure advertisers in. At Culture Press, you, the reader, are not even a customer, but simply the owner of the site. That only happens in two other media: the Friesch Dagblad and the Berliner Tageszeitung. One heavily Christian, the other considerably anargistic. We are neither.
2: Cultural press tells the real story of art.
Our readers, people like you, don't like to be conned, are usually quite capable of deciding for themselves what they like or like, and most of all want useful information. No better form for precisely those readers, than to be co-owners of the site. There is participation, there is a general members' meeting, there are publishing rights and there is a solid editorial statute that ensures that the quality of our reporting is maintained at all times.
3: Cultural press does not do micropayments and payment walls
The latest craze in media land is hiding useful information and good stories behind a paywall. With that, that information is no longer accessible to anyone without an 'account', without money, and without time. As much as we wish everyone to get paid: we think it's weird to charge you a dime for something that will get you further in your daily life. And that sometimes costs us hundreds of euros to make. Therefore, as a member, you provide the capital, with which we go to work to give news to the whole world who can read and watch.

In the new free market of information and news, there is a temptation to telling only that story that lenders want to hear. And the more dependent you are on a few major advertisers, the harder it is to tell stories that are not always good for those advertisers. Culture Press does like to take that risk, and can do so, because our members alone di their diversity ensure that we don't listen to one master. That is becoming increasingly unique, especially in the art world, where positive news is worth a lot to some institutions.
5: Cultural press listens to everyone
Hearsay is one of the basics of good journalism. The internet has made that further necessary, but also easier. You can always respond to our posts, and everyone can basically tell their story. Come mar that to a newspaper.
6: It doesn't happen anywhere else
We were founded in 2009 because fewer and fewer newspapers were doing culture. On TV, the offer has been scaled down to an hour of talking to Dutch celebrities in OpiumTV or Kunststof TV, and shouting a few soundbites at DWDD. Leaving aside the good ones, like Radio Kunststof, which we are all fans of: it's howling at the drop of a hat. That's why we still find out every day that we are needed. 14000 followers on twitter, and 30,000 visitors a month on the site prove us right about that every time.
Bonus: You don't have to have a meeting!
Members are responsible for the club, even if they are not at risk. But you don't have to go that far. You can also become a supporter. Then you pay 6 euros per month and you also get a discount on our live events. And you get our gratitude.
That's worth quite a bit.
