The façade of the Maaspodium in Rotterdam will be colourfully lit with children's drawings for the next few weeks. In the idea of "theatre gives colour to life", children could submit colour plates over the past few weeks, which the theatre uses to drag its façade through the dark days and a lockdown. Business leader Bernadette Stokvis: "Children literally keep our stage alive".
A lockdown during the dark days is no fun for anyone. This umpteenth lockdown affects not only enthusiastic audiences, but also makers and players of Maas theatre and dance and the Maas stage. The colour plate campaign and façade lighting are in line with the VSCD's (Association of Theatre and Concert Hall Directors) call to light up theatres. The light radiates warmth, offers hope and is meant to get us all through this lockdown.
LIVESTREAMS OF MAAS
Not only with illuminated art by children, but also with customised livestreams, Maas hopes to give its audience a heart to heart. Last weekend and next weekend, for instance, children from the Sophia children's hospital and children of care workers at Erasmus MC could get free tickets for a number of livestreams of Maas productions played for the last time. In addition, they could enjoy the Toddler Press Conference (3+). In this hilarious persiflage, audiences are introduced to two characters from BullyBully, the show that cannot premiere due to the lockdown. These two world leaders get to speak in the hope of bringing clarity to our toddler population.
This Friday at 19:00, the Toddler Press Conference will be repeated for free on Maas channels alongside the official press conference. Check out maastd.co.uk/streams or Maas's social media channels.
This Saturday 15 January at 19:30, the final performance of Lampje (8+), based on Annet Schaap's book of the same name, can be watched live via stream for the last time. Livestream tickets are available for €7.50 per screen at maastd.co.uk/streams.
MESH THEATRE/DANCE/STAGE
Maas theatre and dance creates adult performances for anyone who is young or feels that way. Physical, curious, cross and boisterous. We mix theatre, dance, mime, visual arts and much more into tastefully surprising live experiences. Our home, the Maaspodium, is firmly rooted in Rotterdam.
