From 24 to 26 January 2025, ZID Theatre will open its doors for the screening of three unique performances in the Kolenkitbuurt district in Amsterdam West, a dynamic neighbourhood known as a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds. ZID Theatre offers more than a stage: it is a meeting place where stories come together, a breeding ground for artistic innovation, and place where diversity and inclusion are embedded in the organisation's identity. The National Theatre Weekend as a national public event is an opportunity for everyone to learn about the power of art and culture.

A programme of multifaceted, multidisciplinary and inspiring performances

  • 24 January: New Landscapes, New Roads | LNP (19:30 – 21:30)
An intimate and dynamic performance in which a diverse group of makers share personal stories of migration. This mesmerising performance gets to the heart of human experiences and is an ode to resilience and connection.
  • 25 January: WATER | LNP | (19:30 - 21:30)
WATER, directed by Karolina Spaic director of ZID Theatre, is an impressive, multidisciplinary performance that fuses theatre, dance and spoken word. A diverse group of performers compellingly brings to life the challenges of climate change and highlights the power of water - from mythological stories and hard facts to predictions of the future. It is co-produced in collaboration with the European project Green E.Th.I.Cs.
  • 26 January: Not Only One & short film Step by Step | AND | (16:00 - 18:30)
In this gripping solo performance, Nivin Baranbo exposes taboos around women's rights and highlights the power of personal choices. The afternoon will be enhanced by the award-winning film Step by Step, directed by Caatje van Leeuwen, in which Baranbo shares her journey from Syria to the Netherlands and her challenges as an artist.
