Dans la production Bill & Mr B, le Dutch National Ballet plonge thématiquement dans l'histoire avec des reprises d'œuvres de George Balanchine et de William Forsythe. La Symphonie en trois mouvements (1972) de Balanchine est considérée comme le terreau de Forsythe, qui est ensuite allé "plus loin" avec Steptext (1985) et The Second Detail (1991).
