With admittedly the smallest number of square metres of all stages in TivoliVredenburg, the Rabo Open Stage in the central hall is not inferior to the rest: since 2014, over 300 local artists have taken to the stage every year, destined for up-and-coming talent. After eight years of intensive use, the stage has been completely renovated.
Rabo Open Stage offers the future a stage. Several times a week, talented, up-and-coming musicians from Utrecht and its surroundings take the stage. And when there is no music, the stage is used for TivoliVredenburg's Knowledge & Debate programme. Those performances and programmes proved such a success in the past that the stage literally burst at the seams. Last months, the open stage therefore received a complete metamorphosis, including an enlargement of the stage area. Furthermore, the new stage is fully integrated into the wooden staircase leading to the Ronda, making it a permanent part of the central hall. With a larger stage area, professional technology and a complete light wall, the open stage can be used flexibly, from a twelve-strong choir to a debate.
Looking to the future of the stage is focused on sustainability, by investing in talent development and hosting programmes on sustainability. Sustainability also plays a major role in the redesign. Thus, as many materials as possible were reused, local parties were collaborated as much as possible and the old stage was given a new home in the Zimihc theatre in Utrecht.
On Saturday 19 March, the new stage will festively open with a packed programme. Between 3pm and 0am, music by singer-songwriter and Kunstbende award winner Daisy Bellis, indie pop with traces in jazz and cabaret from five-piece LOE., acoustic gypsy jazz in the trio formation of Duende, doll with the silver lining of folk by West and Brand and DJsAfro-Lenny and Martin Alegro.
