L'Histoire du Soldat, Stravinsky's famous work, has been performed in many performances. But never before as in this new production by Tilburg-based orchestra Kamerata Zuid i.c.w. performer Inez Wolters. Dressed in extravagant costumes, she interprets the various characters in this musical tale. Together with live music by Kamerata Zuid and input by circus artist Júlia Campistany, this makes for a unique family show that will capture the imagination of both young and old. On 26 and 27 October next, L'Histoire du Soldat will premiere at Festival Circolo. Tickets are on sale via www.festivalcircolo.nl

About L'Histoire du Soldat

With themes of greed, temptation and the search for happiness, the story of l'Histoire du Soldat is actually about all of us. Along the way in our lives, we encounter the Devil, in many forms, and maybe a Prince(s) too? Will our 'Soldier' manage to resist life's temptations?

Inez Wolters wrote the stories for this performance. The extravagant costumes in which she changes characters during her narration are an act in themselves. Circus artist Júlia Campistany, specialising in mouth-balancing, provides the physical counter-power and is Wolters' side-kick.

During L'Histoire du Soldat, Kamerata Zuid shows that it plays with classical, literally and figuratively. For this occasion, a Jazz ensemble consisting of violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone and percussion has been assembled. Different musical styles can be heard; little miniatures inspired by the Jazz that came over from America at the time. So you will hear an a-typical Mars, Pastorale, a Pasodoble in Marche Royale, a small concerto, Tango, Walz and a Ragtime.

Touring production

Stravinsky wrote the original play in 1918, especially for a touring company. All the more special is the fact that after its premiere at Festival Circolo, this contemporary version of L'Histoire du Soldat will go 'en route' and will be seen at several venues in the Netherlands in 2023 and 2024.
