November Music 2022 kicks off on 3 November with record number of concerts and premieres | 3 to 13 November in 's-Hertogenbosch

November Music kicks off on Thursday 3 November with 50 premieres by makers and performers from home and abroad, 21 composition commissions and more than 100 different concerts. November Music showcases the 30^ste edition see how diverse and vital the latest music is. November Music 2022 takes place from 3 to 13 November at various locations in 's-Hertogenbosch and opens for the second time with the FAQ Festival for electronic music. 

 With the three festival composers Bryce Dessner, Jürg Frey and Joey Roukens, as well as artist-in residence Remy van Kesteren and the two ensembles in focus Silbersee and Ensemble Lucilin from Luxembourg, festival November Music rolls out the red carpet for a great diversity of national and international top performers. Unique is the arrival of Dhafer Yousef and Anouar Brahem, two of the world's very best ud players. Festival composer Joey Roukens is writing the Bosch Requiem, which will be performed by the Nederlands Kamerkoor and Amsterdam Sinfonietta and will be heard in Amsterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch and Enschede this year.

National & international ensembles

November Music 2022 will again provide a stage for a host of Dutch musicians and ensembles including Calefax, Asko|Schőnberg, Black Pencil, Kluster 5, Silbersee and Fuse.

This year, November Music welcomes two of Germany's top international new music ensembles. For the first time, string ensemble Ensemble Resonanz from Hamburg comes with a programme entirely dedicated to Bryce Dessner. Ensemble Adapter from Berlin will play works by two Dutch composers Bianca Bongers and Bart de Vrees.

Jazz, world & pop

This year, November Music puts a focus on African music with the arrival of Tunisian ud players Dhafer Youssef and Anouar Brahem, Trio Da Kali from Mali collaborating with North Sea String Quartet and Metropole Orkest Strings performing with 3MA which includes ud player Driss el Maloumi. The ud also plays a prominent role in Tijn Wybenga's composition assignment. He wrote new work for his regular group AM.OK with Syrian ud player Nawras Alkaky as a special guest.

There will also be several performances during the festival by Composer of the Netherlands Martin Fondse, with his Dreamhouse Quartet. Harpist Remy van Kesteren shows his versatility in various collaborations with Marcel Veenendaal (Di-Rect), Luwten, ZO! Gospel Choir and Martin Fondse, among others. Singer Eefje de Visser, electronica pioneer Jameszoo and Metropole Strings will also perform.

Premiers 

A small sample of this year's more than 60 premieres. Black Pencil mixes eastern and western sounds and electronics with Indonesian gamelan ensemble Kyai Fatahillah; Corrie van Binsbergen sets poems by Antjie Krog to music; trombonist Jőrgen van Rijen presents his own project with new compositions and visuals. Jazz saxophonist Steve Coleman performs his latest composition with the Amstel Quartet.

There is ample attention for new and young talent including Rick van Veldhuizen, Elise 't Hart, Genevieve Murphy, Jan-Peter de Graaff, Aart Strootman, Merijn Bisschops. From the more established names, there will be premieres by Michel van de Aa, Kate Moore, Rob Zuidam, Willem Boogman, Seung-Won Oh and Peter Adriaansz, among others, and from outside the Netherlands rising-star Philip Venables, Bryce Dessner, Alberto Posadas and Steve Coleman.

Classic

One of the icons of new music Einstein on the Beach is performed by Suzanne Vega, Ictus and Collegium Vocale in a concert version and informal setting. Only concert in the Netherlands.

New Music Conference

On Friday, November 11, the fourth edition of the New Music Conference take place in cooperation with BUMA Culture.
