With a circle of acquaintances - Bas Wiegers, Slagwerk Den Haag, Ensemble Klang and Katrien Baerts - Asko|Schönberg is working on the music of the future.
This is done from a rich foundation formed by our 20ste-century heritage. We connect the music of these composers with the new generation. In this case, Dutch Wilbert Bulsink, Estonian Helena Tulve and Finn Sebastian Hilli.
The world premiere, a commission from Asko|Schönberg, comes from Wilbert Bulsink. He wants to invite the audience to contrasting listening positions in his yet-to-be-written work: 'I like compositions in which I have to constantly readjust my ears to follow what I am listening to.'
Helena Tulve practices acoustic alchemy with influences from French spectralism, Gregorian chant and Eastern music. Her work Lines, to lyrics by Flemish poet Roland Jooris, grosses in iridescent timbre mixtures.
Sebastian Hilli, associating on the word 'peach', wants to evoke a feeling of summer air and light breezes, which awakens the senses and exudes the sweetness of a fruit.'
The 'classic' in this programme is the labyrinthine work Licks & Brains II (1988) by Dutch Swede Klas Torstensson.
