Stairway to Music, a programme by Asko|Schönberg and the Muziekgebouw, is an intimate listening experience of about 45 minutes on the steps of the Muziekgebouw. This time the program also has a personal touch. Harpist Ernestine Stoop says goodbye to Asko|Schönberg after more than 40 years and has put together a concert in which she condenses her time with Asko|Schönberg into two essential works, one from the beginning and one from the end of those 40 years.

Ernestine Stoop

The first piece, Trio pour flûte, alto et harpe by Debussy, marked the beginning of her career. Ernestine studied it with the harpist who was still studying it with Debussy himself (Pierre Jamet). It is important because it has only a brief connection with the composer.

Following this, Riflesso sulla scala will be premiered for the same ensemble. Richard Rijnvos wrote this piece especially for Ernestine. She says, "It has been Richard's wish for some time to write a 'sister composition' to Debussy's Trio pour flûte, alto et harpe. 'I like this trio and Richard's music very much. I have already played in several of his pieces.' Again, direct collaboration with the composer is essential.

Program

Claude Debussy Sonata for flute, viola and harp.

Richard Rijnvo's Riflesso sulla scala - World premiere, created with the support of the Fund Podiumkunsten.
