25 years of Gay Games!
During the 25 Years of Gay Games! programme, the Amsterdam Museum will look back on the historic event with a varied programme. Afternoon chairman Marc van den Broek introduced a number of prominent figures from Gay Games history, including former board member Arthur van Schendel and former director of Sport Jip van Leeuwen. Also Feargal Agard and Femke Awater, the creators of the exhibition Gay Games Amsterdam 1998: A queer retrospective, are present. Music will be provided by singer Wilma Bakker, also coordinator of the Gay Games Canal Parade boat.

Story night Resilient voices tell
During the storytelling evening Resilient voices tell visitors are introduced to the challenges lhbti+ persons face on a daily basis. They will also celebrate the successes towards greater acceptance and emancipation of this movement. Moreover, during the storytelling evening, you can visit the exhibition Gay Games 1998: a queer retrospective at the Amsterdam Museum, part of the third edition of Collecting the City visits. The introduction will be given by Hanneke Felten, expert on tackling discrimination from Movisie.

Summer holidays at the Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel
During the summer months, the Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel has plenty to do. Visitors can not only view the various exhibitions, but can also take part in various activities with the whole family. Children up to 17 years old get free entrance.
For children: Make your own flower (4 to 14 years)
Abner Preis is a visual artist and storyteller. In the exhibition Blooming in a Ring of Fire he tells stories with virtual reality about what it is like to keep hope in times of war. In this, flowers are a symbol of hope. Visitors can make their own flower. In the end, a wall of flowers is created, as part of this exhibition.

For children: The power of meeting (from 8 years old)
Young and old come together in the exhibition The power of meeting. A lot happened in Amsterdam during World War II. To keep these stories alive, Amsterdammers who lived through the war tell their stories to Amsterdam children. Are you curious about the stories of these Amsterdammers?

For children: The Maasdamme Collection (from 9 years old)
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. The Amsterdam Museum believes it is not only important to celebrate, but also for children to learn about what happened during slavery and the time after. Rita Maasdamme made with The Maasdamme Collection visualising the stories by using creatures and dioramas. There will be a Keti Koti colouring sheet for children.

For children: Gigi the pigeon
Children can travel with the funny and sometimes mischievous pigeon Gigi through the city of Amsterdam during the summer holidays. They will discover the history of our capital city at a bird's eye view. Along the way, they will come across beautiful, moving and unusual paintings and objects in the exhibition Panorama Amsterdam, A living history of the city. For example, what is the Snot Nose and how were fires put out in the past? Also fun for adults.

For children: Children's Museum Lab (9-12 years)
Amsterdam children can help build their own this summer holiday children's museum. In summer 2023, the Amsterdam Museum will start lab sessions in the West, New West, North and East districts. Children will get a guided tour of the Amsterdam Museum and work together with an artist on an artwork. All artworks will be on display at the Amsterdam Museum from December. Children can apply until 14 August 2023. There is a maximum number of 30 children for each district. You can register via this form.

For children: Sammie tells
Huis Willet-Holthuysen is a 17th-century canal house, very tastefully decorated and filled with the finest art. Which people and animals all lived here? And what did they do? Dog Sammie guides children around the building and tells them about the history of the house and its colourful inhabitants. They meet cook Heinrich, the Deutz family and, of course, Abraham Willet and Louisa Holthuysen.
