A spin-off campaign from the cultural sector will start on Thursday, November 7: Don't Tax My Public. In this campaign, we are asking creators, artists, performers, and anyone working in the cultural and creative sector to tell us why they do not want to burden their audiences with 21% VAT.
In a promo video, Huub Stapel, Sanne Wallis de Vries, Jeangu Macrooy and Gijs Scholten van Aschat call on everyone to speak out. We will compile the stories we collect and hand them over to politicians.
In this awareness campaign, we tell from the maker perspective why we are concerned about a higher VAT rate for our audiences. And we tell what impact a higher tax on ticket prices and art will have on audiences.
The campaign is extra urgent because in a few days doubtful politicians will decide on a VAT increase on culture. Due to resignation of State Secretary for Fiscal Affairs Idsinga, the debate on the VAT increase has been moved to Friday 8 November.
The Tax My Public Not campaign is run on behalf of the entire cultural and creative sector and is an initiative of The Creative Coalition and Kunsten '92.
