Sanja Mitrovic has won the BNG New Theatermakers Prize 2010. She receives the prize of 45,000 euros for her performance 'Will You Ever Be Happy Again'? In which she took care of both directing and acting. She can spend the prize money on a new performance next season.
The jury chose Sanja Mitrovic from among seven new theatre makers who were featured in Blind Date - new theatre makers on tour last season. The other nominees were: Sarah Moeremans (Alone in Your World), White Horse (Trip), Michiel de Regt (Mac), Kenneth Flak (Of Gods and Driftwood) and Domenico Mertens (Tartuffe). Blind Date is organised by Theater Instituut Nederland and made possible by the Culture Fund of the Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten.
Sanja Mitrovic (Serbia/Netherlands) is a theatre maker and performer. She lives and works in Amsterdam. Mitrovic obtained her PhD in Japanese language and literature in Belgrade (2004) and graduated from the Mime Opleiding of the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in 2005. The audience award of Blind Date - new theatre makers went to The Sadists. The Blind Date audience was wildly enthusiastic about their performance 'Alabama Chrome'. They can be seen in Orkater's Richard III, among others, in the coming weeks.
Previous winners of the BNG Theatre Award were Leen Braspenning, Daniëlle van de Ven and Joëlke Sanderse, Laura van Dolron and Keren Levi.
Blind Date - new theatre makers on tour is a series of innovative performances in theatre, dance, mime and visual theatre. The series gives new theatre makers the opportunity to present themselves to a larger audience in various theatres in the country. Each year, they also have a chance of winning the BNG New Theatre Makers Award.
