Just think ahead for a short while and you are where Google wants you to be. All the art, accessible anywhere in the world through your screen, your tablet. Even the obscure art. Or stronger: to be experienced in your google glass or your Oculus VR glasses. You can already viewing art in museums, but without a tour guide telling you what to see. And as much as we do not appreciate that in daily life, sometimes it is quite nice to walk through unknown territory with a guide. Without spending your holiday money on it.
A first thing has now been found on that. With the help of local artists, Google has created a live version made from Google Streetview that lets you wander through a city (or a museum, a nuclear reactor, a cave) while an involved person tells you where to look for the cutest surprises.
The first version is about the underground art of Marseille, and after just five minutes into the first walkthrough, I was totally immersed. This combines a city guide with the total experience that and good game can give you. The music helps. So does the voice. Try it for yourself, and in the meantime, think of the huge opportunities this could present. After all, until now, the possibilities of adding imagery to these kinds of walks were limited. Thanks to that damned streetview, that is now different. I foresee a future where people go on a journey for you, wearing 3D glasses, so that you can experience their adventures from the comfort of your armchair. In real time, or afterwards, edited, as here.
I don't need to leave anymore. Don't forget the headphones, though.
