Because Dutch culture the Dutch only notice when scoring abroad (also applies to football, by the way): Big news about the Netherlands' first company. National coach Ivo van Hove of Toneelgroep Amsterdam has appointed none other than Juliette Binoche snared for a lead role in a play.
The star of The English Patient, Trois Couleurs: Rouge, Blanc and Bleu, and a few of Haneke's films (including Caché) plays the title role in the play Antigone, which Toneelgroep Amsterdam is producing together with The Barbican London and Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, not exactly the smallest boys and girls in the international scene.
Antigone tells the story of a woman who in a fratricidal dispute is forced to choose one of her brothers, and leave the other to rot. She refuses, and eventually has to pay for it with death.
The play can be seen from 25 February in Luxembourg, Edinburgh, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Recklinghausen, among others. More info: http://www.tga.nl/voorstellingen/antigone
