Jubilant reviews. With the 'reality opera' The News, the Nederlandse Reisopera has a hit on its hands. However, the familiar theatre setting is being abandoned for pop temple Paradiso. Whether you like opera or not: five reasons to go. 1. You don't like opera. Stiff, for the cultural elite and soooo corny. But you do follow all news broadcasts, watched Pauw & Witteman and DWDD daily until recently. Then this is the opera for you, now that the news mainly consists of the World Cup. The News does justice to its title. You get the news. With Wilders, Obama, Berlusconi and Dalai Lama. As you've never seen them before.

2. You like opera, but not modern opera. Where's the drama, where's the story? No worries. As high-tech as the edited images and voice samples are, the story of The News is clear. Although the composer denies it. But even JacobTV cannot escape the dramatic eloquence of the News.

3. You don't like opera. Violins, bah! But you're not averse to downright funky horns, vicious guitar licks, a nice beat and can appreciate a pinch of Zappa. Bam! You're in for a treat. With cameos by Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton. Miley Cyrus no doubt in a future edition, because this opera is never finished.

4. You do like opera. But in a pop venue? Don't worry, this opera is made for it. It's loud enough, the din won't bother you. And you can just walk to the bar to order a drink.

5. You don't know if you like opera or not. Just go. You won't be bored for a second. And at least you are going to love both newsreaders and the horns. A little warning is in order: do not try this at home.
