We can make a long story short. September and early October are raining awards. Every performing art form celebrates its own party. Theatre does it with Theo and Louis, cabaret with the Poelifinario, a Cricket is awarded somewhere, and then you have the Musical Awards and of course the Swans and the Dioraphte Prize. You can already feel it hanging: there is a huge amount of talk about these.
NOT.
The Dutch art world is like the reformed churches of the Netherlands. Tiny, but everyone's own party, because the other is no good, has too little money, is friends with Joop or just not...
It has to be different.
Let us together go. If necessary, with the movie on. And the TV. A Great Evening of the Stage. Make up a name for an award that covers the load: from cabaret to classical ballet, from highbrow theatre to musical. We can do that, can't we? And main and subsidiary prizes in each genre, and in the wee hours all the component prizes: for the make-up artists, the backing vocals in the orchestra pit, the singer's dog.
Let Joop van den Ende drum up his mysterious massive camera crew and photographers gang, make sure there is at least 1 riot on the jury, and 1 drunken dancer who wants to thank his mother.
It is the only sensible way to save the performing arts from the drain of the Dutch media.
