Nathaniel Mellors is one of the funniest artists whose work is on show at Art Rotterdam. No moving painting, no coarse-grained fluid slides and no Arnoud Mik either: Mellor's latest work: The Sophisticated Neanderthal Interview, is well-acted comedy about a serious intellectual subject: the art world. Building on the discovery that Neanderthals were not at all the primitive bat-wielding losers we have long held them to be, here a contemporary interviewer is told by a wayward Neanderthal that Sporgo is the be-all and end-all in art, and that you are in danger of being booted out of the scene (E-den) if you are not Sprogo enough.

Mellors has a sense of humour, and so you can see from the installation elsewhere in the Van Nelle Factory, where the same Neanderthal as a puppet hurls some more one-liners into the world. Not very Sporgo, but fun.
