From today, it is not Leeuwarden, Amsterdam, Utrecht or The Hague that is our country's cultural capital, but Den Bosch. For eleven days during Theatre Festival Boulevard, there will be more to see in that city than all to follow. All too loud loneliness, Theatre South Pole
Antwerp-based Theatre Zuidpool does not always make things easy for its audiences. The company has a penchant for rarely performed or radically adapted plays, where the focus is not the actors but the text. That recently resulted in the brilliant but divisively received Der Tod des Empedokles. Already Too Loud Solitude, a moving portrait of a lonely paper crusher who saves the finest books from destruction, is another typical South Pole performance, but if possible even more subtle, even more poignant thanks to Koen van Kaam's phenomenal acting. cards

1996, it seems like an eternity ago. Wim Kok is prime minister, Bill Clinton is smoking a cigar in the White House. Pim Fortuyn wrote a book. But in that year, a class also got its Cito test results. All they have to do is perform the obligatory final musical, but suddenly everything falls apart: "First we were friends and now we don't understand anything about each other." cards
Paintie, The Day Van Gogh, The Painter and the Crow, The Ear of Van Gogh (6+)
The Van Gogh year does not let Boulevard pass unnoticed: no fewer than four youth performances, two each weekend at the Brabants Museum. About an interesting find in the attic. Paintings that suddenly come to life. A crow chasing a painter across the border. And finally, finally that famous ear himself comes to tell why he packed his things and left. cards
Where the flat land folds, Toneelgroep Maastricht
"Go see! Theatre lovers and theatre haters. Older people and especially young people. Before everyone outside Limburg now thinks, "Not the mines, not the mines again!" - no, Waar het vlakke land gaat plooien is much more universal. It is a moving road trip between Berlin and Heerlen, but equally a performance about New York and, say, Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Leeuwarden.
