In the traditional year-end poll among the Dutch film press, the holocaust drama Son of Saul designated as the best film shown in Dutch cinemas last year. The André Hazes biopic Blood, Sweat & Tears is the highest rated Dutch title. Thus, the Kring van Nederlandse Filmjournalisten announced today.
Opinions were clearly divided this year. Counting the votes, a leading group of three titles emerged that crossed the finish line with very small differences. It was also notable that these were three productions in completely different genres. Winner, so to speak, was Son of Saul, followed at minimal distance by the widely embraced Pixar animation Inside Out, with in third place the action film Mad Max: Fury Road. The latter had previously emerged as favourite of international critics.
Even among the Dutch titles, the verdict was far from unanimous. The numbers one and two (Blood, Sweat & Tears and the documentary Those Who Feel the Fire Burning) finished with very small difference, but were each named by only 20 per cent of voters. Oscar entry Paradise Suite even finished outside the top 10.
93 Dutch film journalists participated in this Film of the Year election.
