Indonesian director Garin Nugroho does not make easy films. Often they are visually stunning, like Opera Jawa, but the plot gets in the way a bit for Western viewers. This is no less so with Setan Jawa. And actually, that's not a bad thing at all. After all, why go to the movies in the Holland fest...
