Ten years ago, I got new glasses. Two weeks later, a retired ophthalmologist drove his car through my left leg and a month after that, from a wheelchair - fortunately temporary - the idea for the Cultural Press Bureau was born. Partly because the arts editorships of the Associated Press Service and NRC were decimated. So 26 September is just a date, but a date with a story. The Cultural Press Bureau likes to celebrate that with active readers and followers like you, who are reading this now.
Ten years already, in which we moved from subsidised rich to commercial poverty and now hang somewhere in between, still with the same sense of journalistic necessity and love of art and the will to keep telling the stories that need to be told. Years when the stimulus fund for journalism wouldn't help us because 'art', according to the board, 'didn't play a role in the social debate', and we carried on anyway.
Jubilee year
On 26 September, we are not celebrating the real anniversary: we will do that in spring 2019, when it will really be 10 years since the Cultural Press Office saw the light of day. But this Wednesday marks the beginning of the jubilee year, during which we would like to join you in a toast to what lies ahead.
Meet some of our authors, ask how that actually works, such a club, and share your best secret tip with our star reporters.
