Last night, we received the following press release, requesting that it not be posted until 06 o'clock, out of piety to those affected. We are posting this, even though Paradiso is not a member, because of social interest.
here is the text of the press release
Due to the ongoing corona crisis and the limited opportunities offered by a 1.5-metre society in the coming period, Paradiso has been forced to reorganise this autumn. This means terminating 10% of permanent contracts across the organisation. In addition, temporary contracts have not been renewed since mid-April. Together, this ensures that 60 of the 230 jobs will disappear at the Amsterdam stage this year.
"It is abundantly clear that Paradiso is one of the last venues in the Netherlands to be allowed to run at full capacity again. With that, the corona crisis hits us extra hard and so the uncertainty is even greater," said interim director Michiel Kleiss. "Although there is the prospect of a substantial additional amount of support from the government, this does not end the financial uncertainty and does not yet cover the money we are losing on a monthly basis. Paradiso is not going to survive without this reorganisation. And even then, the future is uncertain. Only with additional sector-specific measures such as the extension of the NOW scheme until March 2021 will Paradiso gain perspective on a future."
Paradiso has been in dire financial straits since the outbreak of the corona crisis. The venue is a non-profit organisation that depends on its own income for 94%, which means that accumulated reserves are rapidly running out. Currently, the NOW scheme from the government is keeping Paradiso partially afloat.
