Did you know that one in 10 Dutch people suffer from severe loneliness? The subject is more topical than ever due to the corona crisis and yet we find it hard to talk about it with each other. On Wednesday 31 March at 8pm, TivoliVredenburg and stadslab present RAUM A candid interview with Flemish psychiatrist Dirk de Wachter by Rachel Rosier (known from NPO3 among others) on loneliness.

Where exactly does the taboo and shame surrounding loneliness come from? What is the difference between being lonely and being alone? This and more will be reflected in the live conversation that will be broadcast from TivoliVredenburg streamed.

Dirk De Wachter

NRC called him one of psychiatry's pop stars, he also sometimes calls himself 'grief doctor': Dirk De Wachter; psychiatrist, writer and professor. For Dirk De Wachter, loneliness is the common thread in his work. "People tell me that I am the only one to whom they still dare to speak, the only one who still listens. And then I think: let's do that especially as a society. "

Music and theatre

In addition to the conversation between De Wachter and Rosier, Ozan Aydogan will give a musical spoken word interlude and theatre maker Marjon Moed, known a.o. for the BNNVARA documentary series 'Single', will close the evening with a short performance.

Tickets

The programme can be followed online via the TivoliVredenburg website. Tickets for the live stream are available from 17 February for €7.50 incl. service charge via the TivoliVredenburg website.

About the programme

This programme is part of Living Apart Together, an exhibition and programme by city lab RAUM. Together with creative makers, residents and civil society organisations, RAUM is researching increasing loneliness in cities. The outdoor exhibition is freely accessible and coronaproof until 7 March.
