Marion Koopmans, Cécile van Els, Maarten Keulemans et al on everything we now know about covid-19
What do we now know about the coronavirus? Are vaccines resistant to the prevailing mutations? What has the corona crisis done to Dutch trust in government and institutions? And what is the damage to the Dutch economy? In an interactive talk show on Monday 15 March, TivoliVredenburg and Studium Generale (Utrecht University) will discuss these and other questions. Guests include chief economist ABN Amro Sandra Phlippen, emergency physician and author Gor Khatchikyan and professor of sociology Kees van den Bos (Utrecht University).
On 12 March 2020, the first lockdown measures were announced. About a year on, where do we stand?
Latest insights on the virus and its control
In two talks, we look back and look ahead to this unprecedented crisis. The first part focuses on the medical side: Professor of Virology Marion Koopmans gives us the latest insights on the virus, and Professor of Vaccinology Cécile van Els explains the effects of vaccination campaigns on the fight against covid-19. With doctor Gor Khatchikyan, we go back: what did he see happening in the emergency room at the height of the pandemic?
Social effects pandemic under the microscope
In part two of the talk show, science journalist Maarten Keulemans (Volkskrant), Sandra Phlippen, chief economist of ABN Amro and social psychologist Kees van den Bos discuss how the Dutch government reacted to the outbreak, and what the social effects were (and are) of the corona approach. On what (scientific) basis did the government have to make choices, and to what extent were various groups heard?
Space for audience questions and musical entertainment
Visitors can ask questions to all speakers via the chat function. Cabaret artist Kiki Schippers opens and closes the programme with two songs specially written for this talk show.
