"This weekend marks the opening of the cultural season, but also brings mixed feelings. More and more people are gradually finding their way back to museums, theatres and concert halls. The sounds and colours there grab us, comfort us and bring us together again. We experience culture now perhaps more beautiful than ever. We look forward to it.
Unfortunately, this still leaves us reliant on restrictive measures. The government has of necessity made choices here. But we understand the many questions about the stricter measures since early this summer. We share the disappointment about the cancellation of various festivals and events. Meanwhile, sufficient expertise has been built up on what is possible and safe. Unfortunately, this expertise cannot yet be fully deployed. We can go the extra mile there.
The past year has been particularly demanding of young people. Last weekend, tens of thousands made themselves heard during the 'Unmute Us' protests. Calls for wider opportunities for festivals found a lot of resonance, but hardly any from politicians yet. This is especially difficult for young people to understand. The Culture Council believes that their request for more solidarity concerns us all and deserves to be heard and answered."
