ILFU and Authors' Union: In prose and poetry, every word and comma is translated, but it is different in theatre and stage adaptations.

THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE

Cultural organisations with a small or large membership can place their press releases on our site without restriction. Participate too? Become a member, as an institution.

What is the difference between a translation and an adaptation? In prose and poetry, every word and comma is translated, but it is different in theatre and stage adaptations.

What freedoms do director and translator dare to take when adapting Shakespeare, for instance? These questions are at the heart of the latest edition of the illustrious programme on translation and all it entails: the Translation Battle.

None other than the rightly widely admired director Daria Bukvić(Theatergroep Oostpool) and rising star Vera Morina (writer, translator) come and talk about their working methods, complemented by Martine Vosmaer, race translator, with a long-standing track record in literary book translation and theatre translation. Together, they explore the mores of making translation with integrity that does justice to everyone's work.

An evening in collaboration with the Translators' Section of the Authors' Union. This evening they will also present the Translation Angel and the Translation Devil.

During the ILFU International Literature Festival Utrecht meet tastemakers from international literature. The festival is an adventurous sampling of literature on current themes and writers who make a difference.

This year, ILFU will take place from 23 September to 8 October 2022, including Exploring Stories, the NK Poetry Slam, several Book Talks with international writers, YALFU (Young Adult Literature Festival Utrecht), and concluding with the 39th Night of Poetry.
