Light design central in new performance by NUT | Di 4 October 2022 - Utrecht

The NUT, in collaboration with SHIFFT, presents the visual theatre spectacle Light, which focuses on lighting design. Light is the extraordinary story of light designer Uri Rapaport who goes through life blind for a fortnight after surgery on a tumour on his eye. Theatre-maker Greg Nottrot takes him on a journey to the source of light. Together with choreographer Jasper van Luijk and dancer Lo Walther Boer, they create a choreography of light. Light is a sensory experience about the history of light, including a three-course dinner at park restaurant Anafora.

Exclusively on show from 26 October to 20 November at Máximapark in Utrecht.

Lighting design takes centre stage

Lighting designer Uri Rapaport created lighting designs for over 750 theatre performances. For the first time in his career, he is now on stage himself, in a dark and dazzling design of his own. Whereas the lighting design usually serves the performance, in the creation process of Light it is the starting point. A performance about our desire for light and our fear of darkness. Expect a hallucinatory trip through the history of light.

Utrecht business community funds over 240 theatre presents

The NUT and Stadsschouwburg Utrecht make theatre accessible to everyone from Utrecht. The number of poor households is increasing and it is precisely in these circumstances that the experience of a theatre performance can bring so much good: imagination, connection and comfort. As part of the celebration of 900 years of Utrecht, over 240 theatre experiences were funded from the Utrecht business community. In cooperation with the U-pas and social brokers, NUT and Stadsschouwburg Utrecht ensure that these theatre presents reach people for whom an evening at the theatre really matters.

A divine dinner

It is getting colder, darker earlier and the leaves are losing their green colour: autumn is making its appearance. In addition to the tradition of summer location performances, the NUT now brings a winter tradition. This autumn, the NUT brings Light into dark days. Enjoy a warming dinner in collaboration with park restaurant Anafora. The audience will join together for broken bread, heart-warming soup, nectar and ambrosia with a thousand and one sugar-filled sweets. Experience this night to remember with an enchanting performance under a giant covered starry sky.

2022 at the NUT: God's future

In 2022, the NUT is making a year of theatre about 'the future of God'. How do we deal with that which we do not know? How did we do it in the past, how do we do it now and how will we do it in the future? Where do we find footing? Does it all make sense? Do we still need a god now that we can google everything?

The NUT on Berlin Square

The NUT is located at the Berlinplein in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn. Together with the Municipality of Utrecht, SHIFFT, RAUM, the BuurtwerkKamer, Jonge Honden, Goede Vrijdag and many other (future) square partners, we are gradually building a circularly developed new building there, where the NUT will move into its own permanent theatre from 2025 onwards. In the meantime, we house in a temporary pavilion on the square.
