Theatre Kikker together with Utrecht partners presents the best stories from the city LITERAIR

Tell! Storytelling festival opens your gaze to the world around you. In collaboration with Het Verhalenhuis and De Vertelacademie, Theater Kikker presents a unique fusion of stories, music, culinary bites, an inspiring exhibition and much more on Saturday 13 May. On this day, you will listen to the stories our city has to offer. Come to Tell! and get to know other cultures and new perspectives.

Free afternoon programme

Every culture has its own stories. Sometimes to entertain others, to teach something or to remember important events. The one-day festival will be kicked off by budding storytellers with personal stories in the theme of new neighbours/new neighbours. These up-and-coming talents stood out during open stages organised by Het Verhalenhuis in the districts of Lombok, Overvecht and Hoograven. The Vertelacademie Utrecht gave these storytellers storytelling training to prepare them for the stage. Accompanied by musicians, the stories will be taken to greater heights during the free English-language afternoon programme.

Soula Notos and New Dutch Connections

In the evening, two storytelling performances are scheduled. New Dutch Connections presents positive and inspiring stories of new Dutch citizens in Future Citizens. During Tell! you will see the story of Shwan. He fled from Iraq to Syria at the age of 9 and ended up in the Netherlands 3 years later. The evening concludes with the latest performance by storytelling canon Soula Notos. She tells a personal story about the awkward but also beautiful in-between space she often finds herself in as a bicultural Dutchman with Greek roots.

Tasty snacks, music and more!

There will be a festive and well-filled fringe programme all day in the foyer of Theatre Kikker. Music by Catching Cultures Orchestra, tasty snacks, the storytelling installation Grass is Green by Marjolein Verschuuren, a performance by actor and theatre maker Abdulaal Hussein and a storytelling exhibition by hoiUtrecht complete the day.

Programmer Jolie Vreeburg sums it up nicely: "This edition of Vertel! is super Utrechtish, but opens your gaze to the world around you."
