With over 25 years of expertise and experience, Benien van Berkel (1965) has a professional background at the Netherlands' largest and smallest performing arts institutions. The thread running through her career has always been the relationship between theatre and audiences. She learned her trade at musical producer Opus One and then worked as Head of Communications & Marketing at Royal Theatre Carré and the Holland Festival, among others. She was co-initiator and founder of the Last Minute Ticket Shop on Leidseplein in Amsterdam. In 2012, she obtained her PhD from the University of Amsterdam with a dissertation on the cultural legacy of the founder of the Kultuurkamer, national socialist Dr Tobie Goedewaagen. Since 2015, she has been running her own company, Benien Performing Arts Management. She shares her experience in the field of performing arts marketing as a member of various boards and advisory committees.
