A few years ago, Greek-Dutch composer Calliope Tsoupaki wrote songs with piano accompaniment for Greek singer Nena Venetsanou. Some of these Tsoupaki arranged for the four brass players of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Brass Soloists and the four singers of the Egidius Quartet, whose tenor part will be filled by Marcel Beekman for this occasion. For him, Tsoupaki also wrote a number of solo songs with four brass players. Most of the songs are staged poems by Konstantínos Kaváfis.
On Saturday, June 12, they rehearsed in The Goals for their concert at the Ketelhuis of the Westergasfabriek on Monday 14 June. The Dodo went to check it out. Besides tenor Marcel Beekman can be heard alto Peter de Groot, baritone Hans Wijers and bass Donald Bentvelsen of the Egidius Quartet, and Ad van Zon, flugelhorn, André Heuvelman, trumpet, Ben van Dijk, bass trombone and Pierre Volders, trombone.
Dear Ellen, Calliope Tsoupaki's concert tonight is not at the Ketelhuis, but at the beautiful Zaha Hadid Pavilion in the Gashouder at the Westergasfabriek grounds in Amsterdam! There are still a few tickets; sign up at the box office in the Gashouder an hour before curtain-up.
