Meanwhile at the Holland Festival: Press cheers over Dog's Heart and doubts Anne Therese de Keersemaeker #hf10

Not all was negative around Sam Mendes' Bridge Project, which was received rather sparingly by us at The Dodo, and a few other media outlets. Apart from a few positive Twitter reactions, the performance of The Tempest also garnered a pretty nice review from Volkskrant reviewer Karin Veraart, who admired music, directorial discoveries and acting performances by Stephen Dillane and fresh couple Juliet Rylance and Christian Camargo.

De Volkskrant was then, through dance critic Annette Embrechts, a lot less happy about Anne Therese de Keersemaeker's The Song. With that, this performance and the previously presented Keeping Still can already take the prize for 'most controversial piece' at the Holland festival 2010.

Bach's Cello Suites could also garner much appreciation in most cases in the performance of young cellist Queyras, and the Saturday matinee concerts at the Concertgebouw were also met with praise, despite the absence of really big and surprising names due to circumstances.

Not a single whimper can be heard about A Dogs Heart. Cheers could already be heard on Twitter, and now that the newspapers are trickling in, there is nothing but praise for this book adaptation of a novella by Bulgakov. Parool critic Erik Voermans even caught himself chuckling, which is rather rare for modern opera.
