Limburg lion awakens: the heartland of the PVV rebels against culture cuts

If even André Rieu gets involved, then the asparagus is cooked. In Maastricht, but also in The Hague. Because André Rieu, that's Limburg, that is folk culture, that is the country's most important export product according to the ministry, and if it says keep your hands off the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, then keep your hands off the Limburg Symphony Orchestra.

We have heard that things are rumbling in the Limburg branch of the PVV. That people there actually think that all these cuts to which Martin Bosma of the PVV has forced the new cabinet a bit far. Especially for Limburg pride. Now what if they get Wilders to soften the cuts to Limburg culture? Will Halbe Zijlstra then replenish his budget elsewhere? And how will local people deal with that?
Latest scenario is that a lot more has to leave the periphery. And then not only the asparagus, but also the turnips are cooked.
Will be a fun summer. Oh, yes: Halbe Zijlstra's letter will probably arrive a few days earlier than 10 June. Has something to do with planning other cuts in other departments that are going to be much heavier. Social Affairs, for example.

Enfin.

We will report the finer details when we have uncovered some other studies, which the ministry is currently keeping under wraps (we know the contents, but cannot publish them yet).

  1. Andre Rieu is right. Culture is much more important than people in The Hague think. But what do you expect from a government led by accountants and calculators who look no further ahead than the four years they are there and arrange themselves a wonderful place in business or european commission etc, preferably both.

  2. Kees Cornelder

A Frisian from the far north who, in the arrogant western Hague, and also with the support of the Limburg PVV, is preparing a massacre of the livability of the south, of all of Limburg, by going on a killing spree in the cultural facilities there?
Sick to my stomach of it.

  3. What incredibly bad Dutch is used in this post! It is as if I find myself among a bunch of purely dialect-speaking Maastricht people....

    Fine...finally....but:
    what is this nonsense:
"...has something to do with planning other cuts in other departments that are going to be much more severe. ..."
culture is being cut disproportionately by 25-30%, only that is not communicated often enough by the media et al.
