Enschede population wants legoblocks church preserved. Support asked for twitter action @stoanloatn

What art can accomplish. Enschede got at least one more church, thanks to the folks at festival Grenswerk, which lasts until 2 October. Because, where before there was a somewhat dull square next to Enschede's railway station, there now stands a church made of colourful Lego blocks. Intended as a multifunctional festival pavilion. Temporary too, because the lego blocks can't stay put, of course.

Or is it?

So now the people want to keep that thing.

At least, if we take the local press have to believe, if it is up to the local Civic Interests party, and according to communications consultant Danny de Vries, one and the same thing has a chance of succeeding. In any case, he has started a Twitter campaign on his own. Those who follow the twitter account http://twitter.com/stoanloatn follows, puts a virtual signature to the request to leave the church standing. And then Twente an attraction, says Danny de Vries: "Enschede has no 'landmark'. It does have a few nice buildings, but nothing that captures the imagination. I mean: Paris has the Eiffel Tower. That was also erected for a temporary event and is still there. Attracts 7 million visitors a year. We also have such a landmark with that church. But on a Twente scale. With a wink."

That the thing is attracting international attention is already certain. Up to the other side of the world, the colourful building is making headlines. A few links:
