In the land where Jan Klaasen Katrijn alone with a balloon may beat up, because a puppet show bashing is not good for delicate children's souls, turns out to be unexpectedly in high demand for Dutch professional youth theatre. In short, a genuine Dutch youth theatre festival in New York has already sold 2,500 tickets, and it is still going strong. Performances of at least two of the four productions showing at the fstival have to be rebooked.
And that this is now not exactly taking place somewhere in a corner of the states, may be clear: 'ZOEM! New Dutch Theatre' will be held from 4 to 29 January 2012 at the New Victory Theatre on the corner of Broadway and 42nd Street in New York. So the place Mr Van den Ende can only dream of, we think, from here. With his musicals.
And the lucky Dutch Youth Theatre groups are: Theatre Artemis from Den Bosch with Wuthering heights, restless souls, The Branch From Utrecht with Ms Ophelia, Stella The Hague With Nobody Knows, Nobody Knows (Repelsteeltje) and Manual Artist Lejo from Amersfoort with Hands up!
The festival comes at the end of a long series of efforts by lifting it soon Netherlands Theatre Institute.
