Borgman is Dutch entry for the Oscars

It cannot have been a difficult choice. The feature film Borgman by Alex van Warmerdam had already made it through to the Cannes competition earlier this year. Now this dark, wry-comic thriller has been chosen as the Dutch entry for the 86th Academy Awards (the Oscars) in 'Best Foreign Language Film' category.

Jan Bijvoet plays in Borgman an enigmatic stranger who suddenly arrives in a villa estate, setting in motion a series of disturbing events.

Borgman was chosen by a selection committee with representatives from a wide range of sectors of the Dutch film industry.

It will be announced in mid-January 2014 whether Borgman is actually nominated. The Oscars ceremony is on 2 March 2014.

The film has already been sold to dozens of countries, including the United States, since its world premiere in Cannes.
