'Already depressed when the sateh is finished.' Lineke Rijxman on 'The Freudjes' by Mugmetdegoudentand.

Update: performance The Freudjes has been postponed for now, until probably later this year.

'I think it's theatre. Psychoanalysis is theatrical.' Lineke Rijxman is fascinated by psychiatrists. Not because she walks through their doors herself, but because psychiatry is a rewarding subject for someone who makes theatre. That is why it had to happen: a play about Freud. But not about Sigmund himself, or his family. The play "The Freuds (No Family)' is about three sisters in today's busy life overflowing with pills and abbreviations. 'We talk about depression so easily. You already say you get depressed when you run out of chicken satay at the butcher's.'

Rijxman directs the show, but also stars in it. Alongside Marleen Scholten and Raymonde de Kuyper. The text is written by Joan Nederlof, for many years the driving force behind Mugmetdegoudentand. Series such as TV7 and Deer Park came from her tube. Television that was different because it played with nice combo of seriousness and mockery, making it often laughable but never bland.

Lineke Rijxman, who before joining the Mug played for many years with the prestigious company Toneelgroep Amsterdam, has an extraordinary charisma. She is one of those gifted actresses who can unlock a whole world of stories with a single glance. That talent made her best known in theatre-loving circles as an actress for tragic, or serious roles, of quite often tormented, militant women. In plays by De Mug, she can show a very different side, with surprising results. For instance, she once played a spoilt toddler, without even pretending to be a child. A few years later, she was seen as the philosopher Hannah Arendt, extreme, hilarious at times, but thanks to her seriousness, also extremely moving and 'real' again.

'I feel we've been able to give each other a lot, mutually,' says Rijxman about working with Joan Nederlof. 'Making it myself, going into that whole process, writing together, coming up with ideas, and keeping an eye on the big picture. I definitely learned that here.'

Good to know
The Freudjes (No family) is likely later this year throughout the Netherlands to see.
