Also the posh part of the arts sector reacts furiously to the VVD's statements, this morning recorded by The Telegraph. This brings the number of reasons for the sector to no excuses to offer to Halbe Zijlstra on six. Where we previously five reasons gifts, the Dutch Association of Performing Arts also now declares that we will not be able to say anything meaningful about how the cultural sector survived the cuts until 2015.
The employers' association (are you paying attention, vvd?) already sees enough reasons to hold on to its heart, because of a major erosion from within: "Especially for the performing arts sector, performances were booked so long in advance and many commitments were already fixed when the cuts came. Those commitments have been met, often with incidental budgets (e.g. from friction costs), by dipping into equity, by producing more cheaply or appealing to the goodwill of employees to work extra without a fee. This is not a sustainable funding model."
NAPK therefore calls the VVD culture spokesperson's action "premature, biased and damaging to the industry.”
Perhaps already a moment for the VVD to apologise?
