Guess who is Utrechter of the year: exciting festival in line with FC and Daphne

Johan Gijsen has been elected Utrechter of the Year. The organiser of the Le Guess Who? Festival succeeds FC Utrecht owner Frans van Seumeren (2015) and athlete Dafne Schippers (2014). The election for Utrechter van het Jaar was held by the AD Utrechts Nieuwsblad. Six columnists selected ten nominees who could be voted for.

Gijsen founded Le Guess Who? in 2007 together with associate Bob van Heur. The four-day music festival, which takes place throughout Utrecht's city centre, enjoys high international prestige. LGW attracted visitors from as many as 53 different countries in 2016. Read what we wrote about Le Guess Who here. Or here.

Programmer

In 2000, Gijsen started working as a programmer at pop venue Tivoli. He devoted over 15 years to the artistic development and successes of Tivoli and TivoliVredenburg, where he left last year. Since then, he has focused entirely on organising Le Guess Who?

Gijsen (41) is very honoured with the award: 'Of course it's about the music, the artists and the visitors and not about me. It's a huge compliment for Le Guess Who? I think it's great to hear that Utrecht, all our partners in the city and the people of Utrecht are proud of Le Guess Who?'

Good to know
Le Guess Who? 2017 takes place from 9 to 12 November, with more than 100 performances in music venues, churches, theatres and galleries. For more information, see www.leguesswho.nl.
