Creators in the cultural and creative industries affected by the Corona crisis will soon be able to appeal to the Rights Sector Support Fund. Agreement was reached on Wednesday 27 May on the establishment of the support fund, which has a budget of 10 million euros available. Members of the Authors' Union can also start appealing to the fund.

What will the support fund be used for?
The money is for support to rights holders in the music sector, creators of audiovisual works and writers and image creators of writings. The funds are partly used to stimulate the creative process of creating (new) works (books, journalistic works, images, music and films). In addition, income support is provided to creators who have been hardest hit by the crisis.

Where and when can you apply?
No applications can be made at this time, as the plans for spending the funds have largely yet to be fleshed out. It is expected that this may take several weeks. As soon as it is clear where and how to apply, we will inform you.

Where does the budget come from?
The Rights Sector Support Fund was set up by the Copyright Interests Federation, the three affiliated umbrella organisations Platform Makers, Platform Creatieve Media Industrie (PCMI) and the Association of Collective Management Organisations (VOI©E). They have provided a budget of EUR 5 million from their own resources. Lira will provide the budget for writers and translators. The Minister of Education, Culture and Science has doubled this amount. Lira consults closely with the NVJ and the Authors' Union on the spending of the funds.

Further information on the support fund will follow during June 2020.
