Thirteen young composers have been selected for the Final of the composition competition Heading to the New Year's concert of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble (NBE). This Finale will take place at Sunday 20 December in TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Like the semi-final, the Final will be livestreamed via the YouTube and Facebook channel of the NBE.
Nearly 100 composers submitted a composition for this year's composition competition. Last weekend, the exciting semi-finals took place at Theatre Junushoff in Wageningen.
There, 24 composers from all over the Netherlands competed for a place in the Finale, the final piece of this composition competition for young composers up to the age of 18. The semi-finals had everything that makes the New Year's concert so special: excitement, fun, emotion and, above all, wonderful music.
On Sunday 20 December, the final 13 composers will play at the Finale and compete for a spot in the New Year's concert, on 1 January 2021 at The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, broadcast on TV by BNNVARA. After this Finale, it will be known which three composers will be on stage there with the NBE.
For more than 25 years, the composition competition Towards the New Year Concert, for everyone up to 18 years old, has proven its strength. Nothing better than coming up with your own music and then performing it with top musicians in a concert hall!

ABOUT THE COMPOSITION COMPETITION
Every year, the NBE receives masterpieces from many (very) young composers for the composition competition. Solo works, duos, pop songs, music for a band or a piece written for (members of the) jongNBE! Composing is nothing more or less than making up your own music. Whether you play it, sing it, by yourself, with your band, a friend, musicians from your own orchestra, jazz or steel band: anything goes, in all styles. The only thing that matters is that it is made up by yourself! The young composers have a chance to perform with the NBE on the stage of The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on 1 January, broadcast on TV by BNNVARA!
