Do we need a new language, and are we at the mercy of the thought police of the Diversity and Inclusion Code? Or is that no thought police, and is Wijbrand in danger of turning into an old angry white man? It remains exciting. So in this podcast, we talk about the 'Handbook' for inclusive language for the cultural sector. And it is also about Lale Gül's book 'I'm going to live', which is causing quite a stir.
Not that we have an answer to everything, because we are not on earth for that, but it provides interesting thoughts. Wijbrand has read 80 per cent of the book, which he says is mostly a diary of a rebellious adolescent, and the discussion of it, with all its unfashionable racist connotations, has been followed mostly by Marijn.
A slightly awkward conversation ensues, which is fine.
All this while there was also a crisis in the House of Representatives, and then it is about a prime minister who does not want to reveal sources and a House of Representatives. What a state of affairs. Just listen.
Dear Wijbrand and Marijn, listened to your Nerd podcast No 9 with great interest. For the first time I ventured into the spoken word of the Culture Press and indeed, nerds are speaking here. Themes are not briefly clarified or clearly explained first and no sentence is finished. The listener is expected to know what it is about and has to be carried along through an intellectual landscape of much mumbling, prattle interspersed with some dog-whistling and endearing stammering. Especially nice for early mornings when you can't fall back asleep. During the day, I would have turned it off long ago but I do that with most talk shows. There is a limit to the amount of air between words I can listen to but I with No 9 I went along to the bitter end. Must confess though that I much prefer reading you to listening. I will continue to read listen and support but please do like to moan a little less on the podcasts. You in particular Wijnand swallow quite a lot of words and you mumble a bit too much. For the rest, I have nothing but compliments for the way you follow our cultural landscape and provide critical and useful notes. Thanks and best wishes Herman Link
Dear Herman, thank you for your criticism. I welcome that. Indeed: it helps to keep things sharp and improve. My question: would you also like to read this critique and send it in as an MP3? Then we will include it in the next recording. We can also agree that you will participate in the next recording, in which case we will contact you separately.
