FOODCHAINZ
Three actors and a food designer pay tribute to the Tomato. From this pre-loved vegetable/fruit, they explore our relationship to the food chain.
How can we appreciate what is so common? And how can our food be a tool for change? For FOODCHAINZ, the actors of The Market Theatre interviewed farmers, culinary historians, marketers, food utopians and wild pickers. They agree on one thing: things have to change in the food chain. But how? FOODCHAINZ is a theatre festival and a culinary meditation in one.
Dinner, audio card and more
FOODCHAINZ is a theatre performance, but it does not stop there. Before the performance, food designer Jasmijn Schrofer and Omar Alexis of the Plein Theatre Eetlokaal will organise a tomato dinner for all visitors. Each evening, Market Theatre invites two guests of honour from science and the food industry. At the table, we will question, seek solutions, but also search for a new common ground for local food issues. Participation in the dinner is included in your ticket for FOODCHAINZ.
Also in the Plein Theatre, you will experience the audio map FROM BOER TO BORD, in which makers of the Market Theatre delve deeper into the different links of the food chain, and you can learn more at the exhibition HARVEST IN THE HOOD, based on a series of food workshops with residents of Amsterdam East.
The Market Theatre
Market Theatre is breathing new life into theatre on the market. With a diverse team of theatre-makers, Markttheater creates performances that reflect on socio-political themes. The performances are direct, energetic and musical. Often starting from documentary research and rooted in the neighbourhood.
