YoungMakersPlatform: Sustainability requires collaboration ACTUAL

Members of the Council for Culture's Young Makers Platform feel a responsibility to contribute to sustainability themselves, but also point out that sustainability is something that needs to be taken up structurally. This emerged during a conversation with the council on the subject. The makers talked about how they try to take it into account in their creative practice and life, but that sustainable choices are often also expensive and that they are already struggling to make ends meet.

The council is currently working on an advice on making the cultural, creative and media sector more sustainable. Chairman Kristel Baele and council member Deirdre Carasso asked the YoungMakersPlatform to think along on this theme and come up with ideas. In particular, the council wants to know how they, as a new generation of young makers, view sustainability and the dilemmas involved.

Kristel Baele on the interview: "This issue is alive and well with the current generation of young creators. At the same time, it poses dilemmas in their daily practice. The ideas and examples from the conversation sharpen our analysis."

The young makers also discussed the need for collaboration to achieve sustainability. Awareness of the need for sustainability is often there. Now it is about behavioural change and this has to be done collectively, was one of the conclusions.

The council will take the ideas and input of the YoungMakersPlatform into its advice on making the cultural and creative sector sustainable. That advice is expected in June this year.
