Best year ever for Theatre Kikker

Utrecht - Last year (2023) was a great year for Theatre Kikker. Never before did the Utrecht theatre on the Ganzenmarkt receive as many visitors as in 2023. In a year when many Dutch venues were still searching to find their audience again after the Corona period, this is extra special. The number of visitors in 2023 grew by over 21% compared to 2019; the last year the cultural sector did not experience restrictions from COVID.

Future-proof theatre

Theatre Kikker celebrated its 50th anniversary at the end of 2022. A festive period that looked back at the beautiful and high-profile performances the theatre has presented in 50 years. The 50th anniversary was also a time to look ahead and, together with the entire team, to adapt the vision and strategy to the current times and developments in the city and its residents. With new programmes in the theatre and on location, a new open house style and a clear and accessible website, a larger group of people is now reached. The foyer was also recently given a makeover; a nice place to discuss the performances with a drink.

"It inspires me; teaches me a lot about myself, others and the world; it relaxes me; it makes me very happy!" - visitor response

Unique position in Utrecht

Theatre Kikker has a distinct profile. The flat-floor theatre has a unique function in Utrecht as a stage for presenting experimentation, development and growth. Its programme includes no mainstream productions, but the undercurrent and innovative (in)flow in the theatre landscape. Theatre, dance, performance and youth theatre on social topics in which you can recognise yourself or, on the contrary, discover new things about the world around you.
