Curator and art historian Imara Limon (Leiden, 1988) will become head of curators and member of the Amsterdam Museum's management team from 1 July. Limon has been with the museum since 2017 and was winner of the National Museum Talent Award in the same year. She made a name for herself with projects such as the programme line New Narratives, the biennial art event Refresh Amsterdam and the current exhibition Manahahtáanung or New Amsterdam? In addition to her work at the Amsterdam Museum, Limon is a supervisor of the Centraal Museum Utrecht and has broad experience as an advisor to various cultural funds. She was also a board member of interest group Kunsten '92 and creative director of the Amsterdam 750 Foundation.
Innovator within museum field
'We are very happy with Imara Limon in her new role as head of curators and member of our management team. In recent years, she has worked on several innovative and high-profile projects that have enriched our own museum and also the museum field. This is why she was named Museum Talent of the Year years ago. A good example of her recent work is her contribution to Manahahtáanung or New Amsterdam? an exhibition that the Amsterdam Museum team created with the Museum of the City of New York and representatives of the Lenape, the original inhabitants of the area that is now New York,' said Judikje Kiers, director of the Amsterdam Museum.
Artistic direction
'Together with Limon and the rest of our team, in the coming period we will continue the established artistic course we have set in our Business Plan 2025-2028. In this, the focus is on multi-voiced programming of Amsterdam stories, often in co-creation with communities in the city,' says Kiers. In her new position, Limon will play an important role in the development and realisation of museum policy, especially in the areas of research, presentation and programming, and as an MT member will contribute to the museum's overall strategy. 'I look forward to making a meaningful contribution to the further development of the Amsterdam Museum as a city museum of the future from this new role,' Limon said. From 1 July, the Amsterdam Museum's management team will consist of Judikje Kiers, Remco Mol, Marije Fokkema, Imara Limon, Marijke Oosterbroek and Maurice Seleky.
