With the new far-right cabinet, a new reality has also arrived for the arts. As before in Brabant, where provincial councils no longer put arts and culture under science and education, Schoof-1, despite an NSC minister on Education, Culture and Science, puts culture under the heading 'Culture, Sports and Leisure'. This is evident from the new classification of the press release service from the government, which was just announced.
Whereas 'Culture' used to have its own press release service, now the Cabinet, in which the far-right PVV has a major finger in the pie, considers Culture to be something that falls under things that are fun for the people. Now of course it is nice to see Culture as something that is fun for the people, but surely our art institutions, the theatres, the museums, the orchestras, can hardly be qualified as 'leisure'?
Or does the Cabinet think that things like our language, our heritage, in short, everything that makes us 'us' are as important as bowling?
