Top or flop: audience picks repertoire first theatre company in the Netherlands

Children of the Sun, one of the shows to choose from

We got another press release, and wondered: top or flop? How does quirky artistry rhyme with audience-determined repertoire choice? Andne: do all those people who chose the winning piece also get a free-or at least discounted-ticket to the performance of their choice? Andne: who checks the results, because there is no notary. Andne: will the marketing department also give us the figures on how many people voted?

The odds of winning now fall a bit thin, after all, because it is already known that one of the voters is going to be pampered. It almost looks like they already know, who that is going to be.

One of the voters can already count on an unforgettable evening. He/she, together with his/her partner, will be invited to an exclusive TA evening with a behind-the-scenes look during set-up, a theatre menu at café-restaurant Stanislavski, a meet & greet with the actors and the best seats.

But otherwise: nice idea.

PRESS RELEASE

Amsterdam, 2 Feb 12

Audience picks reprise Toneelgroep Amsterdam

Until 13 February, audiences can decide which TA performance will be played in 12|13. The audience favourite will be announced 14 February.

The Netherlands' largest repertoire company is calling on its audience en masse to decide which show TA should play next season. From today, audiences can vote on TA's website (www.tga.nl/kiesdereprise) to choose from 15 performances. From Othello from 2003 to In disgrace from 2011. The audience favourite will be announced on Valentine's Day and is guaranteed to be performed at Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam next season.

Reprising performances is one of Toneelgroep Amsterdam's strongest assets, but that the audience gets to decide which performance it will be is a first. The 'Choose the revival' call will become a regular feature in TA programming and will be repeated annually.

The choice list for 12|13 consists of:
