Wednesdays winner of Dutch competition Go Short

Last night the awards for best short films were presented at festival Go Short in Nijmegen. Winner of the Dutch competition is Wednesdays by Aaron Rookus, a small feature film that approaches the highly charged subject of sexual abuse in the most subtle way.

What begins as an emotionally stunningly well-struck impression of eight-year-old Kris' weekly trip to the pool ends in the haunting knowledge that after this day, everything will be different. Kris' adult swimming friend has asked something the boy would rather not have heard.

There is another reason why Wednesdays can be called a special winner. At the previous edition of Go Short, Rookus presented his film idea and then found supporters through microfinance platform CineCrowd who raised the 9,000 euros he needed.

The award for best European short film went to The Runaway (La Huida) by Spanish director Victor Carrey, praised by the jury as an engaging and energetic adventure that plays with audience expectations. The overview of all awards can be found at the website From Go Short.
