Ruben Brugman interviews Russel Maliphant on the Rodin Project

"I love it when movement moves people," says British choreographer Russel Maliphant in this interview after the performance of The Rodin Project. In the Hekman foyer of Utrecht's Stadsschouwburg, our colleague from Dance audience.co.uk the creator ven the Rodin Project on his motivations.

It's interesting what Maliphant has to say about the first part of his dance piece, which is by some experts was dismissed as too classical and predictable. Because of the set, which reflects the rocky nature of much of Rodin's work, the dancers had to move very carefully. To keep the sloping surfaces passable, they were fitted with cushions and mattresses, and this led to a very different kind of dance language.
